What's Inside

The first 5 of 12 steps

  1. Ask for a mutual agreement on Form RTB-8.Neither of you can be forced to sign. A text is not enough.
  2. Family or household violence, or long-term care (s.45.1): one month's written notice plus Form RTB-49 signed by an authorized professional.
  3. Landlord's breach of a material term (s.45(3)): written notice of the problem, and the landlord not fixing it within a reasonable time.
  4. Assignment or sublet (s.34): ask in writing. With 6 months or more left, consent must not be unreasonably withheld.
  5. Read your lease for the end date and any liquidated damages clause.
