BC Tenant Deposit Return Checklist

1. Keep proof you paidand check the amount: each deposit is capped at half of the first month's rent. If you paid too much, you can withhold the excess from your next rent after telling your landlord in writing.
2. Do the move-in inspection and take dated photos.Note every scuff, stain and chip on the report.
3. Get a copy of the report within 7 days.If one does not arrive, ask for it in writing.
4. Report problems in writing, with the date.You are not responsible for reasonable wear and tear.
5. Do not use the deposit as rentwithout your landlord's written permission.
