BC Sublet and Assignment Checklist

1. Is it a sublet or an assignment?Temporary with an end date, or permanent (RTA s.1; Guideline 19).
2. Is the tenant actually moving out?If they stay, it's a roommate, not a sublet (Guideline 19).
3. How much fixed term is left?Six months or more: no unreasonable refusal (s.34(2)).
4. Screen the proposed tenant.Credit or reference checks are allowed (RTB).
5. Charge nothing and take no benefit.RTA s.34(3); standard term 7; offence under s.95(1)(i).
